France - Chambreteau, La Rochelle, Bordeaux to Biscarrosse

Continuing south towards the coast we pass through Bordeaux which sits at the mouth of the Garonne River on a massive inlet that eventually opens to the Atlantic Ocean. The Garonne River actually joins the Canal du Midi near Toulouse which then flows down to the Meditteranean (we have 10 days on the Canal in April!). As you drive across one of the many bridges leading into Bordeaux you first notice a number of ancient church spires that dominate the skyline and then the Arch that would have once been the portal into the city. Most buildings in Bordeaux are around 4 stories as you see here.
